From November 6 through 8, 2009, the first "WINDSTOPPER^® Trailrun Worldmasters“ will take place in Dortmund. On three days, athletes will have to run three challenging stages of varying distances. The fastest of them can look forward to prize money of €20,000. Initiator and organizer of this extraordinary event is PLAN B, who also very successfully organize the GORE-TEX^® Transalpine-Run taking place for the fifth time this year. Title sponsor is W.L. Gore & Associates with their Windstopper^® brand.

Runners have long been waiting for this: the first Trail Run competition that really deserves the title "Worldmasters." Runners will have to overcome a total distance of about 57 kilometers and a vertical distance of 1,000 meters on three days; that's a challenge that well exceeds that of a one-day event. Mountain runners compete with marathon contestants, trail runners with track-and-field athletes, sprinters with ultra runners, and ambitious spare-time runners will stick hard on the heels of the pros.

As extraordinary as this event is the location of the WINDSTOPPER^® TRAILRUN WORLDMASTERS. With Dortmund and the Ruhrgebiet the organizers consciously picked an exceptional location. Especially the finish area on the site of a former blast furnace, which at the same time will be the backdrop for the first stage, will guarantee the runners a uniquely urban and industrial atmosphere. Add to that the exciting trails, the woods, and hilly landscape, and participants will be sure to enjoy a wide variety of scenery. Because that's what trail running's about: leave the trodden paths and run on different soil across ever changing landscapes - be it a short sprint at a mountain, an exciting variation of the usual running paths, or even a longer explorer run exposed to wind and weather.

The WINDSTOPPER^® TRAILRUN WORLDMASTERS competition starts Friday, November 6, 2009, with a sprint run of 4,5 kilometers. On Saturday, it's the long distance run of 34 kilometers and a vertical distance of 710 meters, and on Sunday, the final stage will be on, across 19,9 kilometers and a vertical distance of 315 meters. There will be four ranking categories: MEN, MASTER-MEN (ages 50 and over) WOMEN und MASTER-WOMEN (ages 50 and over).
